PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONALLY HEAVY FIGURE GROUP IN OAK. Ex Waltham Abbey by Repute - Very Large 15th Century English Antique Oak Carved Corbel / Carved Sculpture Depicting a Serf. The largest English antique oak corbel we have ever offered for sale standing some 28 high! Late 15th Century in date. By repute originating from Waltham Abbey, Essex and removed from the abbey during the dissolution in 1540 where it was the last Abbey to be dissolved under the instruction of Henry VIII. The corbel was most likely used as a supporter to a hammerbeam roof. Depicting a serf sitting in period attire. This period carving has real presence! Dimensions = Height 28" x Width 12" x Depth 12.
