The coffer is constructed with a moulded inset panel top, with a joined section below, which is constructed with butt joints to the corners, secured by peg construction. The lid opens on its original loop hinges to reveal a spacious interior, which also retains the original candle box.The interior is clean, dry and practical & usable, retaining its original floor-boards. The coffer also incorporates a working steel clasp, lock and working key. The front of the coffer is decorated with the original lunette carvings, below which are two inset carved panels. The sides of the coffer also feature inset panels.
The coffer stands on the original stiles (feet), which also boast inset scribe carving along the entire length. The back of the coffer retains its original rough-hewn panels along with the original floor. Overall, this coffer boasts a lovely deep, rich oxblood colour and patination and is an ideal interior design piece.

Nominal old marks to the top and leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. Such old use marks are inevitable and perfectly acceptable due to its age and use it would have received.The interior is clean, dry, and usable.
